The ExCeL Arena remained the place to be for two-wheel enthusiasts today as crowds at the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show enjoyed an action-packed second day of bike-themed fun, including the presentation of the coveted MCN Man of the Year, awarded to a rider who has achieved notable success on the world stage.

The award, won by Tom Sykes, was judged by MCN readers making him a clear favourite amongst the British biking community. In what nearly ended as a tantalising first World Superbike title for a Brit since James Toseland triumphed in 2007, Yorkshireman Sykes lost out to Italian veteran Max Biaggi by just 0.5 points at the end of a dramatic season.

Sykes was the surprise package of the 2012 World Superbike series, taking four wins and nine other podiums on a rejuvenated Kawasaki ZX-10R project. Tom Sykes, said, “This is a real honour and whilst winning titles on my Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R is obviously the main priority, being recognised with awards like this is a really special added extra.

Talk in the arena later turned to the upcoming British Superbike Day (Sunday 17th February), which will feature top riders from the country’s premier motorcycling series. Top BSB riders will line up to meet the crowds, sign autographs at the BSB stand and give on-stage interviews. Riders expected include Alex Lowes, Chris Walker, Dan Linfoot, Danny Buchan, Keith Farmer and Peter Hickman. Alongside the stars, visitors can also get up close and personal with Shane Byrne’s championship-winning Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R, the Samsung Honda Fireblade plus other racing exotica.
The showpiece ‘Revolution’ in association with Michelin continued in traditionally furious style, featuring the greatest names in British biking, such as fan-favourite commentator and former race star, Jamie Whitham, ex-World Superbike champion Neil Hodgson, 12-times Trials World champion Dougie Lampkin, Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness, 2011 British Superbike champion Tommy Hill and fans-favourite Chris Walker.
