Champion Hill leads Shane Byrne and Josh Brookes

The MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship heads to Cheshire this May Bank Holiday weekend (5/6/7) for the biggest motorsport event in the north west. Tens of thousands of spectators will descend on the picturesque Oulton Park circuit near Little Budworth, to witness 33 of the world’s best riders competing for one of the most sought-after titles in racing.

MCE BSB gets better every year and features new technical regulations for this season, with electronic aids such as traction control being outlawed. This has led to an even bigger spectacle and closer competition, demonstrated by the opening three races of the season producing three different winners. Ulsterman Ian Lowry leads the standings for Padgetts Honda by just two points from Australia’s Josh Brookes, with the pair both taking wins last time out at Thruxton, but their rivals are determined to fight back this Bank Holiday weekend, particularly defending champion Tommy Hill on the Swan Yamaha and Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne.

A host of international stars are also aiming to make their mark including legendary former World Superbike contender Noriyuki Haga and flamboyant Italian Luca Scassa. Local contenders bidding for home success include Ellesmere Port’s Jenny Tinmouth, the only female to have ever competed in MCE BSB, and the Liverpool-based Quattro Plant Kawasaki team with their riders Gary Mason and Frenchman Freddy Foray.

Tommy Hill said: “Oulton Park is one of my favourite tracks anywhere in the world and we won there last season so we really want to repeat that, especially after missing out twice at Thruxton!” Fans visiting the circuit this Bank Holiday weekend have the chance to see an extra MCE BSB race after the second Brands Hatch contest from Easter was postponed. In addition to the MCE BSB races (the first on Sunday, two on Bank Holiday Monday) there will also be racing from the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship, the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 and 600 Championships, the Monster Energy Motostar Championship and the one make Triumph Triple Challenge.

Fans can meet the riders during a free of charge pit walk on Bank Holiday Monday. Advance adult tickets for raceday (Bank Holiday Monday) cost from £25 online in advance with children aged 12 and under free. The Oulton Park circuit is easily accessible via the M6, the A54 or the A49. For more information and to book visit or call 0843 453 9000.
