METZELER SET FOR HIGH SPEED CHALLENGE AS THEY GO ‘BETWEEN THE HEDGES’ AT THE NORTH WEST 200

Following the announcement of their 150th anniversary  ‘Road Racing’ activities, Metzeler are set for the first event of their Summer spectacular, as the North West 200 gets underway. After extensive testing, the Metzeler supported riders will finally hit the ‘roads’ race ready, as they tackle the 8.9 mile long coastal circuit which will see speeds in excess of 200mph.

The iconic street circuit in Northern Ireland is the first major International Road Race of the year and the unique event often sees some of the biggest names from the British Superbike paddock head over to compete ‘between the hedges’. This year will be no different as a host of famous short circuit riders, along with the world’s best road races will line up over the course of the prestigious races.

Alastair Seeley

Leading the way will be current British Supersport leader, and the most successful North West 200 rider of recent times, Alastair Seeley- lining up on his Metzeler shod Kawasaki machines in the Supersport, Superstock and Superbike classes as he hopes to repeat his victories of last year. However pushing Seeley all the way will be the MAR Train Yamaha’s of his British Supersport title rival Stuart Easton, who returns to the ‘Triangle’ following a 150mph horror crash here in 2011.

Guy Martin

One of the biggest attractions of the event though will be the road racing debut of British Superbike star Josh Brookes. Having run the pit boards at the event in 2012 for his then team mate Seeley, Brookes will finally fulfil a lifelong ambition when he and his GSX-R1000 Tyco Suzuki line up to compete in the races ahead of his TT debut just a few weeks later. Lining up alongside Brookes will be his more experienced team-mate and fan favourite Guy Martin, who with five podiums, will be hunting for that elusive first North West victory.

Gary Johnson

Other top road racing stars utilizing Metzeler for this year include TT winner Gary Johnson who is leading the return of iconic Italian marque MV Agusta, James Hillier onboard his Quattro Plant Kawasaki, Dean Harrison of RC Express Kawasaki and the Riders Motorcycles BMW of British Superbike rider Martin Jessopp – who currently holds the speed record at the North West 200 having reached a phenomenal 208mph last year.

Riders will use ‘roads’ developed Metzeler Racetec slick tyres during both Superbike races while the Supersport and Superstock 1000 classes will use road based treaded tyres.

Metzeler UK Marketing Manager Jim Worland commented; “Our Ace Cafe launch showed how seriously Metzeler are taking road racing this year and hopefully the North West 200 will prove the capabilities of our tyres. Alastair Seeley has proven to be the man to beat in recent years and he enters the event leading the British Supersport Championship, so we are very happy with our line-up including the North West ‘debutante’ Josh Brookes.

Of course the North West 200 is just one part of the plans we have for this year, from here we head to the iconic Isle of Man TT where we will unveil our Metzeler Village and the Villa Marina party!
