GEM Motoring Assist, road safety organisation and breakdown cover company, is celebrating the unsung heroes of our roads; the UK’s motorcycle blood couriers, by continuing to help fund their essential training.

Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers (SERV) is a charity that transports vital supplies, such as blood, samples, and vaccines to NHS hospitals throughout the UK. The SERV volunteers wear high-visibility jackets and ride motorbikes, which are often their own, but only work when the roads are quietest, particularly during the early hours of the morning.

Throughout the year, to show its full support, GEM has contributed to the training costs of the volunteers within the charity, which relies on donations to help them transport the crucial packages from one location to the other, quickly and safely.

SERV takes road safety very seriously and every volunteer courier must have advanced motorcycle training as the cargo they transport is so precious, sometimes including plasma and often important patient notes.

David Williams MBE, CEO of GEM Motoring Assist, comments: “We very much admire SERV and its volunteers who provide a vital service that benefits so many hospital patients. Without them, the NHS would no doubt have difficulty sourcing the incredibly important supplies. To volunteer for such a significant service is remarkable and we are delighted to help fund the training that each SERV member requires.”
