CRASH DROPS BOAST DOWN SERIES STANDINGS

Boast – now fifth in series standings

Team Suzuki Short Track rider, Pete Boast, slipped further down the championship standings for the 2012 British Short Track Championhip over the weekend, after a rare error in the final at the Norfolk Arena hosted TT event, saw the seasoned racer drop to fifth in the series standings.

Starting race day in usual blistering form, Boast began by taking two heat wins and a third to qualify on pole position for his semi-final. But a tangle in someone else’s crash in the semi, saw Boast have to fight back from seventh, using all his skill to barge through the pack to a well-earned third place finish, making the second row for the final.

Determined to get stuck in, the final began well for Boast, moving up to fourth spot early-on, before a move trying to make third saw an uncharacteristic error from Boast, touching the rear wheel of rival Tom Woolley and crashing out. A restart and determined ride ended in an eventual 10th placed finish.

Pete Boast:“I really cannot blame anyone but myself for that error. A very schoolboy mistake that’s not only cost me a good race result, but has damaged my championship hopes too. With Ade Collins so dominant this year, I need consistency at the very least, and that didn’t happen this weekend. As ever, that’s racing, so I’ll just look forward to the next one.”

Race Result:

1st Aidan Collins, 2nd Ben Baker, 3rd Tom Woolley, 4th Richard Mason, 5th Tim Geig, 10th PETE BOAST

Championship: 1st Collins (80 points), 2nd Woolley (55), 3rd Mason (46), 4th Birtwistle (42), 5th Boast (41), 6th Neave (39).
