The Yamaha R1 – owing to its desirability, one of the most recovered motorbikes

Road Angel, the makers of the renowned motorcycle and ATV tracking device Bike Trac, are celebrating a successful summer of recoveries, with no less than 17 since the start of British Summertime, including the very first ATV equipped with the system too.

Boasting 21 recoveries in total this year, July in particular proved to be a busy month with five bikes stolen, including a Yamaha R1 that was recovered in less than 1.5 hours with Bike Trac, as well as a Yamaha R6 and a Honda Fireblade too.

But like Bike Trac itself, the summer hasn’t just been about theft and recovery, as the system’s other functions have provided high profile tracking, like Charley Boorman who utilised Bike Trac with fans online on his trip across South Africa in his Channel 5 TV show ‘Extreme Frontiers’. Samaritans Charity rider David Exley, also utilised Bike Trac as he rode to every Samaritans branch in the UK and Ireland raising funds in the process.

Bike Trac’s Bill Taylor commented, “This year has without question been hugely successful for Bike Trac so far. The summer is naturally an active time for motorcyclists and it comes as no surprise to learn that bike thefts increase during this period. Certainly 2012 has been our busiest since launching Bike Trac, but crucially our recovery rate has been our best ever too.

“On top of the recoveries and its use on major trips, we have also gained official approval from BMW Insurance, are now fitted to all Honda UK test machines also and are in trial with other major manufacturers too. We truly believe that we are revolutionising bike security, while offering a product that provides much more than just a tool against crime.”
